The TIEs team recently visited Chobar gorge, a local Nepali cultural heritage site and a lesser known location for Nepali tourism. Our guides for the day were a group of my former students from when I taught here in 2008. Now young adults, I can remember teaching these same boys when they were just 8th graders! It has truly been a joy to see them grow up.
The boys shared with us some history of this gorge. The local legend is that the entire Kathmandu Valley was once a massive lake. In Buddhist lore, the god-like being Manjushree came with his sword and cut this gorge open, draining the lake water and turning the Kathmandu Valley into a habitable land.
